Current Grocery Taxation on the Kenai Peninsula (updated June 1, 2017) Note: There is NO 3% borough tax on groceries from Sep to May because voters said NO grocery tax in multiple borough-wide votes: City of Homer: Jun-Aug: 7.5% tax (3% borough, 4.5% city) Sep-May: 0% tax City of Soldotna: Jun-Aug: 6% tax (3% borough, 3% city) Sep-May: 3% city tax City of Kenai: Jun-Aug: 6% tax (3% borough, 3% city) Sep-May: 3% city tax City of Seward: Jun-Aug: 7% tax (3% borough, 4% city) Sep-May: 4% city tax City of Seldovia: Jun-Aug: 7.5% tax (3% borough, 4.5% city) Sep-May: 0% tax Unincorporated Areas/Towns: Jun-Aug: 3% borough tax Sep-May: 0% borough tax (exception - because of Ordinance 2016-31, passed by the Assembly in 2016, there is a 3% tax on groceries at grocery/convenience stores that do not accept food stamps)
